2016 Range Rover Gets Diesel Engine for U.S. line-up

In the United States, the new Range Rover Sport Td6 is the first one to get a diesel engine

It is really a good news for all the Range Rover lovers in the U.S. that for its 2016 models, the British SUV brand is offering a V-6 diesel engine in the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover regular model. The 2016 Range Rover Sport HSE Td6, one with a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine cranks out 254 bhp and 443 lb-ft.

of torque when mated with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It returns fuel economy of 22mpg city/29mpg highway that means, 25mpg combined.

What about general perception about Range Rover’s economy?

Yes! Some people do say or believe if someone is rich enough to buy a Range Rover, he has plenty of money to spend on the fuel and really don’t have to worry about fuel economy. But that’s a misconception.

They really care about vehicles’ economy and with these new frugal diesel engines and 23.5-gallon fuel tank, you now get a range of about 650 miles between refill.

What JLR has to say about it?

The new Td6 diesel engine has a 32 per cent better fuel economy – when mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox – than that of the V-6 supercharged petrol engine which comes as standard in base Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. This engine is capable of towing up to 7,716 pounds’ heavy trailers.

On your off-road ventures, it is a perfect machine as it offers lots of torque and low-range gearing on steep grades.According to Land Rover, both the models Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Sport Td6 takes 7.1 and 7.4 seconds respectively for zero-60mph sprint.

How does it meet U.S. emissions standards?

The Td6 engine is made with Compacted Graphite Iron which gives it the ability to be lighter, yet having better fatigue strength than aluminium and higher tensile strength than standard grey cast iron.

Then the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a brilliant step from Range Rover to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions to U.S. standards.

What equipment comes standard?

Rear-view camera, power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, an electronic air suspension and Oxford perforated-leather seats. To make off-road experience delightful, Range Rover offers an optional terrain-response system which automatically chooses the best driving mode from Mud/Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, Grass/Gravel/Snow and General.
